Horathapola Estate Bungalow - A heritage bungalow set within a working coconut plantation
Horathapola
Estate is 50 acres of tranquility, nestled within the peaceful backdrop of rural Sri Lanka. The lush
estate garden includes a salt-water swimming pool, jacuzzi, walking trails, and is full of vibrant
birdlife. Beyond the garden, the lush emerald green extends into a live organic estate. Coconut, an
abundance of tropical fruits and vegetables, traditional herbs and spices, as well as rice are all
grown
organically and sustainably, supporting the livelihoods of at least thirty families in the
neighboring
village.
Once a family home, now a stylish holiday bungalow
Built almost a
century ago, in 1922, Horathapola Estate Bungalow is an ancestral home which has been lovingly
restored
into a holiday villa. Featuring touches of modern luxury that compliment the stateliness of its
colonial
architecture, the bungalow beckons holiday seekers in search of a stylish and peaceful escape, away
from
the crowds. The bungalow’s heritage past is reflected in the priceless collection of Sri Lankan
antique
furniture found within, some as old as the bungalow itself.
The bungalow features 5 spacious bedrooms with en-suite, oversized bathrooms. Each room has its
unique
view of the verdant garden, and ample seclusion to be found within gently shaded balconies, patios
and
verandas. A separate two-bedroom lodge with its own garden offers a more private retreat, ideal for
honeymooners, small families or a group of friends.
